Marrakech is one of the easiest destination wedding locations to reach, and that is a major reason I recommend it over other options like Bali or the Caribbean. Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) has direct flights from over 80 European cities, which means most of your guests are only 2.5 to 3.5 hours away. From London, it is 3 hours 20 minutes. From Paris, 3 hours 15 minutes. From Madrid, 1 hour 45 minutes. From Milan, 3 hours. These are similar flight times to going to Greece or southern Spain, but the experience is completely different. Budget carriers make the trip very affordable. Ryanair and EasyJet serve London Stansted, London Gatwick, Paris Beauvais, Paris Orly, Madrid, Milan Bergamo, Brussels, Barcelona, Lisbon, and many more cities. Return fares are often under 100 euros if booked 3 to 4 months ahead. I have seen London to Marrakech return flights for as low as 40 euros on Ryanair during shoulder season. That makes it hard for guests to use cost as a reason not to come. For guests flying from North America, Royal Air Maroc operates a direct route from New York JFK to Marrakech, about 7 hours. There are seasonal routes from Montreal and Miami as well. Guests from the US or Canada who cannot find a direct flight can connect through Casablanca, Paris, or Madrid with one easy stopover. I always suggest North American guests book 4 to 5 months ahead because these routes fill up in peak season. Visa requirements are simple. No visa is needed for EU, UK, US, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand citizens for stays under 90 days. Just a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining. This covers the vast majority of wedding guest lists. If you have guests from countries that do require a visa, the Moroccan visa process is straightforward but takes 2 to 3 weeks, so flag it early in your communication. Here is my practical advice for helping guests book flights. Create a page on your wedding website with specific flight recommendations for each city your guests are coming from. Include the airport code (RAK), the best airlines for each route, and the optimal booking window. If you have a large group coming from one city, look into group booking discounts. Some airlines offer 5 to 10% off for groups of 10 or more passengers on the same flight. One caveat about the airport itself. Marrakech Menara is small and can feel chaotic during peak arrival times. Immigration lines can take 30 to 45 minutes, and luggage delivery is not always fast. Tell your guests not to panic, it always works out. Having a driver waiting for them outside with a sign makes a big difference in their first impression of the trip. Arrange transfers in advance rather than leaving guests to negotiate with taxi drivers in the arrivals hall. The airport is only 15 to 25 minutes from the Medina and 25 to 40 minutes from the Palmeraie, so once they are through the airport, they are at their hotel quickly.
