our editorial assessment
Domaine Dar Jmel is a private hectare off the Amizmiz road, about twenty minutes from the centre of Marrakech, with two independent villas around lawns, palms and olive trees. The main house, Villa Dar Jmel, has seven suites for up to fourteen adults; the second, Villa Dar Abi Samama, has four suites for eight more. Between them sit two pools, a padel court and a pétanque pitch. For a wedding you rent the whole estate and its outdoor spaces, and the owners leave you free to choose your caterer and suppliers. With room for about 90 guests, it suits couples who want a villa weekend for their inner circle and a party of their own design.
Dar Jmel began life as an artist's villa, set in greenery outside the city, and has since grown into a two-villa estate run for private stays and events: weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, birthdays, company retreats and photo shoots. The houses are contemporary rather than traditional, with whitewashed living rooms, deep teal sofas and wide windows onto the garden, and outdoor lounges built around the pools. Breakfast and daily housekeeping are included, and a concierge arranges drivers, airport transfers and outings, so the estate works like a small private hotel that you have to yourselves.
The pictures here are green and blue: long pools lined with palms and white cabanas, lawns shaded by olive trees, terracotta walls with arched doorways, and covered lounges with thatched roofs by the water. A paved path through the lawn leads to an open area framed by arches that suits a ceremony or a long dinner table. The light is best in the late afternoon, when the walls turn warm and the shadows of the palms stretch across the grass. Inside, the living rooms are modern and bright, a clean backdrop for getting-ready photos.
The estate rents its grounds for the wedding, with the reception held on site, and you bring the team you want: caterer, florist, DJ, lighting. A ceremony fits on the main lawn or under the arches at the end of the garden path, cocktails by the pool, and dinner at long tables on the grass for up to about 90 guests. Because you choose every supplier, the result depends on the people you hire, so a good local planner or caterer is worth their fee here; the owners can recommend some. Ask how late music can play, whether a dance floor and a marquee are allowed on the lawn, and who handles the clean-up the next morning.

It suits couples with 50 to 90 guests who want a private villa weekend for their closest people and the freedom to design the wedding themselves, from the menu to the music. It suits groups of friends who like to play: padel, pétanque, ping-pong and two pools keep a long weekend lively. It suits less well if you want everything handled in-house by one team, if you want a classic Moroccan riad or palace look, or if more than twenty-two guests need to sleep on site. Most foreign couples marry legally at home, so a symbolic ceremony on the lawn here can be as personal as you like.
The estate has eleven suites in two houses. Villa Dar Jmel, the main villa, offers seven suites with their own bathrooms, several indoor and outdoor lounges, a dining room, a kitchen and a large pool that can be heated on request; it sleeps up to fourteen adults. Villa Dar Abi Samama adds four suites for up to eight. Booking both gives the couple, the parents and the wedding party their own space, with breakfast served each morning and the rooms made up daily. Other guests will stay in Marrakech, twenty minutes away, or in the guesthouses along the Amizmiz road.
The estate sits at number 9 on the Amizmiz road, south-west of the city, about 12 kilometres from Jemaa el-Fna and 9 from Marrakech airport, so guests can land and be at the villa within half an hour. Arrange minibuses for anyone staying in town, since taxis are rare out here at night. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for a lawn wedding; in winter, use the heated pool option and plan heaters for the evening, and in July and August, start the dinner after sunset.
Dar Jmel does not publish wedding prices, so these are my estimates. The main villa has been listed from about 400 dollars a night, and the full estate with exclusive use of the grounds for a wedding is likely to cost 1,500 to 3,000 euros a night depending on the season, with a three-night minimum. Because catering is yours to choose, food follows the market: Marrakech caterers start at about 40 to 65 euros a guest, so a dinner for 90 runs around 3,600 to 5,900 euros before drinks, plus tables, lighting and a dance floor if you need them. For a three-night wedding weekend, a total of 12,000 to 22,000 euros is a fair working budget. Ask the owners for a written quote for the estate and the event fee.
Prices here are grounded estimates from published rates, direct enquiries and what couples report paying. Treat them as a starting point and confirm the exclusive-use and per-head figures in writing for your own dates.
Domaine Dar Jmel is a strong choice for a private, do-it-your-way wedding weekend: two modern villas, two pools, big lawns and the freedom to bring your own caterer and team. It is not a turnkey venue, and its look is contemporary rather than Moroccan, but for 50 to 90 guests who want their own house party it offers a lot of space for the money. Compare it with Fawakay Villas, which offers more help from its owners, and with Villa MontBel, if you want a similar private estate closer to the city.
