our editorial assessment
Nobu Hotel Marrakech is the Moroccan outpost of the hotel brand created around chef Nobu Matsuhisa, set in a round, red-walled building in Hivernage, a few minutes from the medina. It is not a garden venue and it is not where you hold a ceremony under the olive trees. It is where you throw the party: a rooftop over the medina for up to 200 guests, a restaurant with one of the best-known menus in the world, a pool terrace, and an underground club for the end of the night. With 71 suites upstairs, it suits couples who want a city wedding with a dinner people will talk about.
The hotel occupies the round building in Hivernage that many travellers still know as The Pearl, and booking sites still list it under that name. The Nobu team brought its formula: Japanese simplicity mixed with Moroccan craft, a signature menu from Nobu Matsuhisa, and a style of service the brand calls omotenashi, the Japanese idea of anticipating what guests need. Inside you find carved white arches around an atrium with a tree at its centre, calligraphy on the walls of the suites and dark wood in the restaurant. The hotel displays the Small Luxury Hotels of the World emblem on its site.
The rooftop is the star: an open terrace with rattan lanterns, hanging egg chairs and long views across the medina to the Koutoubia minaret and, on clear days, the Atlas. Golden hour up there gives you the picture of the weekend. Downstairs, a curving pool runs between red walls and wooden decks, which photographs beautifully by day, and the atrium with its tree and white arches makes a calm backdrop for portraits. At night the bar and restaurant glow in dark wood and warm light, more nightclub than garden party, which is exactly the point.
Nobu's own figures: the rooftop takes up to 200 guests for a cocktail party, the main dining room seats 112, the bar and lounge take 40 and the outdoor terrace 30, and the whole restaurant floor, terrace, lounge, dining room and pool terrace together hosts up to 290 with set menus. The Circle, an underground club, is there for the late part of the night. A symbolic ceremony can work on the rooftop at sunset, but most couples will use Nobu for the welcome party or the wedding dinner and dance, and hold the ceremony elsewhere. All food and drink come from the Nobu kitchen; ask for the set menus and the music limits on the roof.
It suits couples with 80 to 200 guests who want an urban, fashionable wedding party with exceptional food, and guests who like a night out. It is a strong choice for the welcome dinner or the after-party of a wedding held somewhere quieter. It suits less well if you dream of a garden ceremony, a traditional Moroccan setting or a whole estate to yourselves: the hotel stays open to other guests, and its look is modern Japanese rather than riad. Most foreign couples marry legally at home, so a rooftop vow reading at sunset, followed by dinner, can be all the ceremony you need.
All 71 rooms are suites: 44 Junior Suites, 6 Deluxe Junior Suites, 18 Deluxe One Bedroom Suites, 2 Miyabi Suites and the Nobu Suite, with family layouts from 92 square metres and the largest suite at 220. Rates have started around 350 euros a night and average closer to 550, so a block for the wedding party is a real budget line. The spa offers argan oil massages, a Moroccan hammam ritual and Nobu treatments for the morning of the wedding. Because the hotel sits in Hivernage, guests on a smaller budget can stay in the neighbouring hotels and walk over for the party.
The hotel is on Avenue Echouhada in Hivernage, the leafy hotel district just outside the medina walls, a few minutes by taxi from Jemaa el-Fna and about fifteen from the airport. That makes logistics easy: guests can stay anywhere in Hivernage or Gueliz and walk or take a short ride, and taxis run all night. The rooftop is best from April to June and in September and October; in July and August, wait until after sunset, and in winter, plan the dinner indoors and use the roof only for drinks.
Nobu publishes no wedding prices, so these figures are my estimates. A seated wedding dinner with Nobu set menus, drinks and service for 150 guests is likely to run between 150 and 250 euros a head, and with the rooftop and late hours privatised, one wedding evening comes to roughly 20,000 to 40,000 euros before decor, flowers and music. Rooms come on top: at 350 to 550 euros a night on average, a block of 20 suites for two nights adds 14,000 to 22,000 euros, usually paid by guests. Ask the events team for a written proposal with the minimum spend, the set menus and the rooftop curfew.
Prices here are grounded estimates from published rates, direct enquiries and what couples report paying. Treat them as a starting point and confirm the exclusive-use and per-head figures in writing for your own dates.
Nobu Hotel Marrakech is the address for a wedding party with style: a rooftop over the medina, one of the world's most recognisable menus and a club downstairs. It is not a ceremony venue in the traditional sense, and you share the hotel with other guests, but as a welcome night, a wedding dinner or an after-party it has few rivals in the city. Pair it with a garden venue for the ceremony, or compare it with Park Hyatt Marrakech and Le Naoura Barrière if you want your whole wedding inside one five-star hotel.
