Among the 12 cake designers we list, a wedding cake typically starts between 250 and 400 euros. Size sets the base, so the number of guests and tiers matters most, and then comes the decoration: sugar flowers, hand painting, a sculpted design. Delivery and setup outside the city can add to it, and a dessert table is usually priced on its own. A few cake designers start lower than that and some much higher. Each one's own starting price is on their profile.
The price usually covers the cake itself for an agreed number of servings, in the flavours you choose at the tasting, with a simple finish. Check whether delivery, setup at the venue and a cake stand are included. Sugar flowers and other decoration are common extras, and fresh flowers on the cake may come from your florist rather than the baker. If your venue cuts and serves the cake, ask whether it charges for that.
Taste before you look at designs, because a beautiful cake that nobody finishes is money gone. Ask for photos of cakes delivered to real weddings, not only studio shots, so you see how they look at a venue. Summer is very hot here, so ask which finish the designer recommends for your date, since buttercream softens in heat faster than sugar paste. I would also ask how the cake travels and where it waits before it is cut. A cool spot at the venue matters as much as the recipe.
These are worth asking on the first call. Can we taste the flavours, and is the tasting charged or deducted from the order? How many guests does the size you quoted really serve? Which finish do you recommend for our date, and how long can the cake stand outside? Do you deliver and set up the cake yourselves, and at what time will it arrive? Where should it wait before it is served, and does the venue have fridge space for it? What happens if the cake is damaged on the way?
